Toy News 5/6/2022: Hasbro Obi-Wan Lightsaber, Lego I Am Groot

Welcome back to Toy Aisle, io9′s regular roundup of the funniest and occasionally weirdest ways to spend money on the internet. This week, LEGO turned to Marvel for its cutest new set, Hasbro teased the content of its Obi-Wan Kenobi merchandise, and… well, did you ever need more encouragement to raise into proper bathroom etiquette?see this!
This past week has been all about Star Wars reveal, so let’s start with LEGO’s new buildable baby Groot from the “Let’s Remember the Good Times in the MCU” Infinite Saga series. The 476-piece model stands nearly 11 inches tall and has plenty of articulations for posing, including a standing nameplate that repeats “I’m Groot” over and over — some great attention to detail. But the reason we’re dropping $55 on this set (available for pre-order now, but doesn’t ship until August 1) is that the equally lovely and surprisingly accurate LEGO-made tapes are included.

For 80s kids who grew up in strict households where no “evil” Decepticon toys meant no access to Sonic, the Blaster was an acceptable consolation prize.Hasbro’s Transformers line of Legacy Voyager Autobot Blaster features the same red, yellow, and grey speaker design as the original, but now kids and collectors have to go through 20 steps to turn it into a robot. The real appeal of Soundwave and Blaster are the deformable tapes that can hitch a ride on each robot’s chest, and a new $34 version of Blaster, available for pre-order now on the Hasbro Pulse website, includes a robot called Eject , it can still be turned into a cassette, albeit with a modern design.Maybe a flash drive would be a better choice?
LEGO is now determined to fill not only collectors’ shelves, but every empty space on their walls, as well as its art collection, which includes mosaic versions of Batman, The Beatles, and more. The latest addition to the iconic music group theme recreates the Rolling Stones logo.Unlike previous LEGO Art Editions, this 1,998-piece set skips a rectangular frame shaped to match the iconic symbol, although we don’t sell 100% of its black borders of varying thicknesses. Can’t get enough of the design here. The $150 set will go on sale August 1st, but pre-orders are not yet available.
A new Star Wars show is on, and once Hasbro decides to tease at least some merchandise before it actually airs, there will be power! In addition to the “Wandering Jedi” Obi-Wan Kenobi action figure we saw earlier this week, Hasbro is also using the opportunity of a new trailer for the upcoming Ewan McGregor series to tease both characters Play the project. The first is the light-up Force FX Lightsaber, based on the design Obi-Wan used in the series – for all intents and purposes, his blade is from the last two prequels and A New Hope, but it’s bigger than the former because By the time the show started, it had been hidden in himself or in his belongings on Tatooine for 10 years. The Sabre includes a small stand to showcase the hilt in the same style as previous Force FX Sabres, and an attachable blade that, when activated, will of course light up blue, playing all the appropriate lightsaber sounds.
Meanwhile, Vader’s helmet is an updated re-release of one of the first Black Series role-playing helmets, with tweaks to the helmet’s head and neck, and accurate embellishments for how it will look in the upcoming series .In addition to making the sound effects, the helmet is designed as a three-piece component, attached via magnets, so fans can separate the neck, face shield, and top helmet section separately for easy fit and pretend you’re sitting in your own meditation room, ready to strangle One or two officers.According to Hasbro, both products are currently scheduled for release on January 1, 2023, but given the current pandemic-affected shipping issues, they will likely arrive later than that time. They’re all available for pre-order on Hasbro Pulse, with the Force FX lightsaber for $279 and the Vader helmet for $132.
Extreme athletes like skateboarder Tony Hawk have plastered their likeness and branding in toys and video games, and now it’s Aaron “Wheelz” Fotheringham, an athlete who sits in a wheelchair and skates Performed amazing tricks and aerial stunts while riding with BMX.At 14, Fotheringham was the first person to perform a backflip in a wheelchair, just one of the stunts kids can try out with this new $50 RC Aaron “Wheelz” toy from Hot Wheels. It includes a ramp and a wireless controller that activates the “wheel assist” function and tops out at over 6 MPH.
If LEGO’s new Iron Man Armory set from its Infinity Saga series feels oddly familiar to you, that’s because just two years ago, LEGO released its original Iron Man Armory set, which is now retired. The new version is almost double the size of the previous version – 496 pieces compared to 258 pieces. The new Armory will be available starting June 1st for $90 and includes a sports car and a total of 8 MCU minifigures: MK3, MK25 and MK85 Iron Man suits, plus Stark, Pepper , Fury, War Machine and Whipping.
We’re not quite tired of Jurassic World Domination merchandise, because it’s impossible to hate dinosaurs forever. But of all the movie pairings pouring into the online store, including those loosely associated with the franchise, this Raptor toilet paper holder is definitely one of the most disturbing. For $30, you can get an amazing Raptor shape and a nice paint job, but we can’t imagine ourselves stumbling into the bathroom in the middle of the night, and once we flip the Raptor’s big yellow eyes, we’re not scared it.Turn on the lights.Maybe leave this to the most loyal Jurassic fans who like to hang their TP the wrong way.
We’re not ashamed to admit that we have a soft spot for the Stuntz toys that were recently added to the LEGO City collection. The small flywheel-driven motorcycle only needs a few turns on the floor to get going and take off at impressive speeds when launched.Climb a few ramps and you can be distracted for an hour, and each bike has a unique character that makes the line even more enjoyable. The new Sudsy Simon Tub Racer is easily the best of them all, racing in a real tub with a snorkel and rubber duck.Life jackets don’t do much to avoid road rage, but we like the commitment to that.Arriving August 1st for $8.
